Students in the Master 2 program, Communication and General Interest option, are taking part in an awareness campaign dedicated to prostate cancer. This initiative, in collaboration with health professionals, aims to inform the general public about the importance of screening and prevention methods, while combating preconceived ideas about this disease. Students work on articles, podcasts and videos that are published on the MProvence online media. Partners include Aix Marseille University, La Ligue contre le cancer, l'Association Française d'Urologie, Anamacap, France Bleu Provence, Région Paca and participating hospitals.
Objectives of student participation:
1. Exploring medical and societal aspects:
By getting involved in this campaign, students will deepen their understanding of the medical and societal issues surrounding prostate cancer. They are made aware of the challenges of prevention, screening and treatment of this pathology.
2. Designing informative content:
Students actively participate in the design of awareness-raising content, proposing various formats (articles, videos, podcasts) to inform in a clear and accessible way. They also create teaching aids to help popularise medical information and encourage regular screening among men at risk.
3. Production of reports and interviews:
In sub-groups, students produce reports including interviews with specialist doctors (urologists, oncologists), patient testimonials and exchanges with relatives affected by this disease. This enables them to bring a human and authentic perspective to prevention messages.
4. Follow-up of clinical interventions and coordination meetings:
For a more complete understanding of patient care, students have the opportunity to attend certain surgical interventions as well as meetings between healthcare professionals. This gives them an overall view of the patient's care pathway.
5. Participation in the final public conference:
Students take part in the final conference on 13/11 at the Pharo, in Marseille, in the presence of doctors, partners and the President of AMU.
Benefits for students and impact of the campaign
This experience enables students to familiarise themselves with health communication, while developing their journalistic skills and their sense of civic commitment. In this way, they participate in a concrete public health initiative which, in addition to their educational contribution, helps to raise public awareness of the risks and importance of preventing prostate cancer.
