January 23, 2025, Territorial Knowledge Meeting "Silver Economy: meeting the challenges of an ageing population"
couple-6653517_640_EddyK.jpgOur next Territorial Knowledge Meeting will take place at the School of Journalism and Communication of Aix Marseille University on Thursday January 23 at 10:30 am, 21 Virgile Marron street, 13005 Marseille. This meeting can be followed remotely.
By 2050, France's population aged 60 or over is expected to reach 23 million. In the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, people aged 60 or over accounted for 29% of the population in 2019, a higher proportion than in mainland France. By 2050, the proportion of people aged 85 or over is expected to double, from 3.8% in 2019 to 7.3%.
This aging demographic is stimulating the creation of numerous products and services aimed at seniors: in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, this represents just over 100,000 jobs. The idea that the elderly have specific needs to satisfy, that they could constitute a market to occupy, and that this market could provide jobs and growth, has thus taken hold.
What is the proportion of senior citizens in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, and how is it evolving? How can local companies take advantage of this opportunity to innovate, create jobs and raise their profile? What is the true economic weight of these activities in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region? What are the major challenges facing the stakeholders in a society that will have to become more inclusive of the elderly? Housing, employment, job insecurity: what are the future prospects for seniors?
It is vital for the South Region and its partners to support this regional debate, so as to gain a better understanding of the challenges facing public policy in response to the new needs of its inhabitants.
This Rencontre Connaissance du Territoire will be moderated by Alexandre Joux, university professor at the École de Journalisme et de Communication d'Aix-Marseille:- Insee's regional office will present its work on the aging of the population in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region
- The network of urban planning agencies in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region will present the study "Silver Economy: meeting the challenges of an ageing population"
Our guest speaker will be Romain Ganneau, Managing Director of the Silver Valley innovation cluster. With a degree in Urban Management and Public Management from Aix Marseille University, he has supported the structuring of start-ups, bringing his expert eye for business models and, more generally, his mastery of the silver economy, the economy of the seniors sector. He is co-chairman of the OIR, Opération d'intérêt régional, Silver Eco South Region.
Registration to assist the meeting.

December 12-13, 2024, Study days: "Producing continuous information - The new professional standard for journalismes: a look at the effects of climate change in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region”
Journee detude.pngThe practice of "continuous information" has developed to the point of becoming a standard for journalism in general, and even a new model of professional excellence. Understood as the simultaneous and intertwined cohabitation, within media organisations, of the activities of production, editing and uninterrupted distribution of journalistic content, it is this little-studied transformation that these study days have explored.
These days, organised by Pauline Amiel, Olivier Baisnée, Loïc Ballarini, Jerome Berthaut, Cyriac Gousset, Dr. Nicolas Hubé and Jérémie Nollet, will bring together researchers and students to discuss changes in journalistic practices and the challenges posed by the urgency of continuous information. -
October 3, 2024, Territorial knowledge conference: “Biodiversity and heatwaves: a look at the effects of climate change in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region”
csm_drought-5226296_1280_bb3238d7d1.jpgManifestations of ongoing climate change, heat waves are becoming increasingly intense, frequent, early and long. In France, average temperatures have risen by 1.7°C since 1900, according to Météo France. Rising temperatures have many consequences.
The Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region is one of the regions in mainland France with the hottest summers. Over the next few decades, it will also be the region where average summer temperatures rise the most.
At the same time, the effects of climate change on plant biodiversity in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region have been accelerated by global warming and the increased aridity of ecosystems. What are the effects of climate change in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region? How will summer temperatures evolve? What will be the impact on the regional population? and on plant biodiversity? In this context, what can be done to conserve and restore flora?
It is vital for the Southern Region and its partners to support this reflection at regional level, so as to better define the public policy issues at stake in response to the new needs of inhabitants and biodiversity.
This Territorial Knowledge Meeting meeting will be moderated by Alexandre Joux, full professor at Aix Marseille School of Journalism and Communication:
- Arne Saatkamp from Aix-Marseille University will present the work he has carried out in partnership with the Region on "The impacts of climate change on natural habitats and terrestrial biodiversity in the Southern region and its evolution prospects"
- Olivier Sanzeri from the Insee Regional Office will present the study "Tropical nights, hot days: the population increasingly exposed"
Our keynote speaker will be Joël Guiot, paleoclimatologist, committed to climate change issues and CNRS Emeritus Research Director at the Cerege laboratory of Aix-Marseille University. Joël Guiot has authored or contributed to more than 200 peer-reviewed scientific articles, and directed Labex OT-Med until 2020.
