  • Objectives

    EJCAM's Master's degree in Journalism, recognised by the profession, is a two-year program. It trains journalists capable of working in a variety of media (print and digital media, television and radio). Students acquire in-depth knowledge of contemporary issues and the media environment, as well as solid professional and technical skills. In the second year, students opt for a specialisation in television, radio or print and digital media.
    The main objectives of this Master's degree in Journalism are:

    • To apply the fundamentals of journalistic writing and the editorial techniques of print, audiovisual and online journalism, using the main journalistic genres and styles (interview, portrait, report, investigation, etc.).
    • Adapt these skills to editorial departments and their professional specialisations (agency journalism, local journalism, magazines, web, etc.).
    • Use the technical tools of television and radio production.
    • Effectively mobilise the tools of information research and production.
    • Understand the major contemporary issues and the journalism environment in order to decipher the social world and situate oneself in the professional arena.
  • Student profile, career opportunities

    The course combines lectures and theory with practical exercises.
    This course prepares students for positions as:

  • Admission requirements

    Access to the Journalism Master's program is by competitive entrance examination, open to anyone holding a bachelor's degree or equivalent, with no age limit at the time of application.
    The competitive entrance examination takes place in two stages.
    First, the application form is completed online, on the Conférence des écoles de journalisme platform. It must include:

    • An identity document ;
    • A detailed CV listing all courses taken since obtaining the baccalaureate, experience (professional, associative, abroad, etc.) and any publications, ideally with associated URLs (publications on professional media but also on media managed by the candidate);
    • A two- to three-page cover letter that allows us to understand who you are and why you want to become a journalist, your vision of the profession and your career plans, and why you have chosen to apply for the EJCAM Master's in Journalism;
    • A 2,000-signature essay describing your vision of your career path when you leave the school, and in 5, 10, 20 years' time, etc. ;
    • All available transcripts since the baccalaureat, i.e. at least the baccalaureat transcript, the transcripts of the semesters and/or quarters of the first and second post-baccalaureate years and the first semester of the third year.

    The oral admission test is organised at a later stage. This test takes place remotely. It consists of a motivational interview based on the candidate's professional project, during which knowledge of current events and an interest in covering them are tested.

  • Internships and supervised projects

    An 8-week internship is compulsory in M1 and M2 for both initial and continuing education students.
    Trained in field journalism, students spend a week of intensive immersion in a field in France or abroad in the first year.
    In the second year, they produce a long-format work for television, radio, print or digital media.

  • Work-study program

    Once admitted to the competitive entrance exam, students can follow a one- or two-year work-study program.
    Students on work-linked courses follow a specific timetable, alternating between periods at EJCAM and periods in editorial offices.
    Students can work in radio, television, print and web media.

  • Equal opportunities

    The Aix-Marseille School of Journalism and Communication (EJCAM) is part of Aix-Marseille University, which has chosen to make a social commitment to equal opportunity, the fight against discrimination and the democratisation of higher education. Reduced university registration fees, from which scholarship students are exempt, and attention to the variety of student backgrounds foster a diversity of profiles within the journalism master's program.
