University Diploma Impact Journalism: Investigate, Collaborate, Transform

This university diploma is designed for candidates with a strong interest in journalism, investigative reporting, and major social issues. Applicants are expected to have a basic understanding of news production and how the media works (journalistic writing, verifying sources), as well as a genuine awareness of democratic, social, and environmental issues. Since teamwork plays a central role in the profession, the ability to work collaboratively is also essential.

The goal of this program is to prepare journalists and media professionals to design, conduct, and lead investigations that make a real impact, taking into account all aspects of a project, editorial, strategic, collaborative, legal, and societal, from the very outset.

This program is offered in partnership with Rembobine, a media outlet bringing together independent journalists that highlights the impact of journalism on our societies. It is based on a close link between professional practice and theoretical contributions from research in information and communication sciences, all of which are regularly applied to concrete scenarios that closely reflect real-world conditions.

By the end of the course, students will have acquired the following skills and knowledge:

• Academic Knowledge to Be Acquired 
  The course is structured into thematic modules centered around a core module that guides students through the design and implementation of an impact-driven survey. It combines theoretical concepts, case studies, group workshops, and role-playing exercises. This enables participants to acquire the following knowledge by the end of the course:
  • Concepts, history, and types of impact
  • Ecosystem of stakeholders
  • Ethics and professional conduct
   
• Skills to be acquired 
  • Design a study that incorporates impact objectives from the very beginning
  • Identify and engage stakeholders (media, researchers, citizens, NGOs)
  • Work within collaborative frameworks (multi-editorial teams, multi-stakeholder groups)
  • Develop a dissemination and engagement strategy
  • Measure and analyse the effects of an investigation over time
  • Take into account legal, ethical, and security constraints

This university certificate program allows students to strengthen or acquire skills in the following areas: investigative journalism, impact or engagement officer at a media organisation, collaborative project coordinator, and mediation between journalism, research, and civil society.
 

• Staff or freelance journalist, or a role within a media organisation (product, marketing)
• Open to students who have earned 180 ECTS credits or the equivalent
