At a time when the internet and social media are revolutionising the way we access information, the European media landscape is undergoing profound changes. Globalisation, technological advances, the proliferation of communication channels and the accelerated circulation of content are posing new challenges for the media and democracies.
In this context, press freedom and the fight against disinformation are key issues. They lie at the heart of European democratic values and determine the quality of public debate, the diversity of opinions and the freedom of every individual to form their own view of society.
How can we ensure reliable and independent information? What role do journalists play in combating disinformation? How can we reconcile freedom of expression, freedom of investigation and editorial responsibility?
This event will provide an opportunity to engage in discussion with recognised professionals from the fields of journalism and European communications. Drawing on their experiences and analyses, the speakers will address, in particular, press freedom, investigative journalism, source verification and ways to combat disinformation. They will also answer questions from the audience and offer insights to help us better understand contemporary media issues.
Featuring:
• Renate Schroeder, Director of the European Federation of Journalists;
• Alexandre Joux, Aix-Marseille School of Journalism and Communication (EJCAM);
• Frédéric Lemaître, journalist at *Le Monde*.
An event organised by the EUNIC Marseille network, in collaboration with the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Marseille, the Goethe-Institut Marseille, the Bibliothèque de l’Alcazar and the Aix-Marseille School of Journalism and Communication (EJCAM).
