Young Reporters for the Environment Contest, the report of two of our students awarded

Émilie Méchenin and Juline Garnier are the winners of the Special Prize "Forest and Wood", category 19-25 years, journalism. This prize was awarded to them for their report: "The Aleppo pine, towards a revaluation of a Provencal symbol".

"The Aleppo pine is an emblematic tree of southern France. We see it everywhere but it has a bad reputation. Not very interesting economically because it is mainly transformed into paper pulp, it is therefore poorly maintained and it spreads on the territory. Problem: its needles are highly flammable and favour devastating summer fires. To remedy this problem, professionals in the sector have fought to give it a better commercial value. Today, they continue to mobilize to create an industry for this particular wood.
