J2/François Chalais Young Reporter Award, Digital Writing Category
Camille Nowak, a student in Master 2 Journalism at EJCAM, is the winner of the François Chalais Young Reporter Award in the Digital Writing category. She won a 1000 € grant offered by the François Chalais association and an internship at France Médias Monde for her report entitled "On the steps of the "diverted inhabitants" of Sospel.
The report, in MOJO (mobile journalism) digital writing format, deals with the daily life of inhabitants in the Alpes Maritimes who no longer have access roads to their homes. Following the collapse of a mountain slope on April 14th, about forty inhabitants of the hamlets of Beroulf and Sainte Sabine are cut off from the rest of the village. The only road accessible by car was swept away during the collapse. To reach their homes, their only means of access is a small path accessible only on foot (30 minutes of travel). With this event, a true solidarity was set up between the various inhabitants, which completely upset their daily life. During a whole day Camille spent time with these inhabitants and she immersed herself in their rhythm of life to transcribe in her video what constitutes their routine as winter approaches. All of the characters in her report are "baffled" and approach this experience in a different way: a forced isolation, a challenge to overcome or an accumulation of difficulties.
